Remote Online Notary
In New York, R.O.N is governed by the Electronic Signatures and Records Act (ESRA) and the Revised Uniform Law on Notarial Acts (RULONA). Under R.O.N, a notary public in New York can perform notarial acts for individuals located anywhere within the state using audiovisual communication technology.
This allows parties to interact and complete the notarization process without physically being present in the same location. To conduct R.O.N in New York, the following requirements must be met:
Eligibility:
Our agents are commissioned in New York and have completed additional training to become a Remote Online Notary Public.
Technology:
Our R.O.N agents and the signer(s) must use an approved audiovisual communication system that allows for real-time interaction and identification verification. The system must also provide a recording of the entire notarial act.
Identification:
The notary must verify the identity of the signer(s) using personal knowledge, remote presentation of identification credentials, or other methods allowed by law.
Recordkeeping:
The notary must create and retain an audiovisual recording of the notarial act, along with any other required documentation, for 10 years.
Electronic Signatures:
The signer(s) must affix their electronic signature to the document using a secure electronic signature solution.
